$169000.00 This 1940 Mercury Custom has been sold. Nothing epitomizes the post-war custom car era like a beautiful '40 Mercury with the flowing graceful lines of Hollywood style of the late '40's. Neither time or money were spared in the detailed creation of 12 years spent on the recreation of one of California's most famous customs. Originally built by the Barris Brothers for Nick Matranga in late 1948. Over 100 modifications were incorporated in the custom build. Master craftmen reshaped the body with 6 inches removed from the front of the roof and 8 inches at the rear. Suspension has a Magnum 4" drop axle and dearched springs at the rear of car. Front and rear bumpers were replaced with 1941 Lincoln Continental with custom hand shaped glass lens, countersunk in the rear bumper guards. Interior: Custom fitted with period correct Emerald Green and Ivory Naugahyde upholstery. Chrome dash with Steward Warner gauges. All new 12 volt system and chrome plated steering column with a 1950 Mercury accessory steering wheel. Very rare Appleton Series #112 spotlights with Ivory handles.
